Majorcan by birth, Barcelonese by long residence
and citizen of the world, more particularly of the Mediterranean world,
by deep conviction, Toni Catany has a direct and unaffected way of
looking at all the things that surround him. And that is also the
way he takes photographs.
As Mercè Ibarz describes his works in the
following article, "if they show flowers or fruit, these are
of the everyday kind; if they're nudes or portraits, they can picture
famous show-business people as well as ordinary people he has met
in the streets of the Raval district where he lives; if they show
ruins, these are of the kind usually ignored by museums and seldom
visited by tourists; if they're landscapes, the scenes very seldom
produce images of modernity, but they conjure up some immutable reality
in which the Mediterranean is used as a metaphor".
