CARLOS ALVAREZ: "I FIRST CAME TO BARCELONA
HANDCUFFED AND ESCORTED BY A POLICEMAN"
by Felicia Esquinas
People stop him in the streets now. They come up to him to say
hello "as if I were one of the family. They credit me with
all the fine qualities displayed by the lovable, sweet character
of Solas". Carlos Alvarez played the role of the amiable
next door's old pensioner in Benito Zambrano's magnificent movie
and that's precisely in Barcelona where he collected his "Goya"
award as a "revelation actor". After four long decades
of dedicated work on the stage, a year of "fortunate coincidences",
along with Calixto Bieito's initiative, has now led Carlos Alvarez
to perform for the first time on Barcelona's theatre scene, namely
in "La vida es sueño".
